How Test Scores Are Calculated
A test score expresses the number of correct answers as a percentage of the total possible points. The formula is straightforward: divide your correct answers by the total questions and multiply by 100.
Score (%) = (Correct answers รท Total questions) ร 100
Example: 42 correct out of 50 questions = (42 รท 50) ร 100 = 84% (B)
Points-Based Scoring
Some tests assign different point values to different questions. In this case, multiply your correct answers by the points per question to get total points earned, then divide by the maximum possible points.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many can I get wrong and still get an A?
To get an A (93%+) on a 50-question test, you can miss at most 3 questions (94%). For an Aโ (90%+), you can miss up to 5 questions (90%). Use the table above as a quick reference, or enter your specific numbers into the calculator.
Does partial credit affect my calculation?
If your test uses partial credit, enter the total points earned in the "correct answers" field and the total possible points in "total questions." The calculator will work correctly regardless of whether the inputs represent raw question counts or point totals.
